Whether you live in a big city or small town Canada, there’s always a feeling of pride, belonging or representation when a building, a street, a station or any other landmark you pass by on your daily basis makes it to a song that has the potential of reaching thousands of ears. In some cases, it’s like seeing a story cross paths with yours.
For outsiders, hearing about such landmarks is an unique way to learn about any given city through local artists or visiting musicians that were inspired enough to incorporate it into their art.
Take a trip across Canada through the places – popular or unknown, large or tiny, natural or manmade – that make each city or town unique.
Visit the ever-changing landscape of False Creek in Vancouver, beautiful Wascana Lake in Regina, a busy intersection in Winnipeg, bubbling Boulevard Saint-Laurent in Montreal or an iconic venue in Halifax. You never know what you can learn from your neighbours. Or the place you live in.
Thanks to everyone who submitted ideas for this playlist: Darbarspecial, Loozrboy, Shonica, Switters, CDNz1, GarfieldUK, Zammachus, Tiffy, Morgana, Old Abe and Scott. If your song isn’t here, be sure it’ll be used at a future OurBasement playlist.
Did you spot all the landmarks? Is there any other song that belongs on this list? Let us know in the comments.
Good morning!

Answer to your question from yesterday Old Abe. No, I wasn’t on R3 other than lurking on occasion I usually listened to R2 at work. My wife & I live in Midhurst (just north of Barrie). My Mom’s family comes from Chesley which is why I know Meaford and Keppel are close geographically.

The only thing I intend to post about the Donald today:
All politicians who have a chance of being elected sell you a bill of goods — they promise far more than can ever be delivered; it’s inevitable. But re Drumpf in particular, how the hell is it that people are forgetting this? He’s a master at selling puffery. IT’S DONALD TRUMP!!!
(I just heard someone on the radio who was a ‘Never Trump’ and now thinks she agrees with a few of his principles.)

Some of you may enjoy this: It seems that lichenologists (yes, that’s a word) have just found out (not quite proven yet) that lichens are not only symbiotes of fungi and algae, but that a yeast is also in the mix.
They are stunned. It’s a new technique, on the back of someone noticing two “different” lichens were dna-identical (both the fungus and the algae), but one was an Amerindian edible and the other, poison.

Instead of listening to angry orange man last night, I went the the pool last night with a friend, swam laps and lounged around by the pool after, felt so awesome, warm summer night. We then drove around looking for a cool bar to hang out on Saturday for a group get together. A much more uplifting way to spend the evening.

@morgana… My Stepmom is OK. She had to have another surgery. Even with chemotherapy between the first surgery and this one they found more. 😦 . She is recovering and getting her energy back after this most recent surgery. She likely will be in hospital until Tuesday or so. Once she is strong enough she will go ahead and do some very intensive chemo moving forward. Her attitude is amazing and am amazed by her. She has been a Catholic all her life and has a very strong (and true) faith which I highly respect. She is fully aware of what all this means. More than anything I am supporting her and especially my Dad too. We remain hopeful and hope this next round will kick in.
