  1. CARAS Strikes Hall Of Fame Committee

Allan Reid, President of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, says the call for increasing the number of annual inductees from members and outsiders is being heard, but the Academy is taking a studied approach to changing its rule book.

“There is a lot to be considered before we start adding more names,” Reid said Friday in response to an article in FYI that noted a growing chorus of people pressing for change, and for the late Bobby Curtola to become an inductee.

Thanks for the post @Reg! Thumbs up on the new song & video. Poor Murray…
FIre ban here. Very dry. There’s a chance of rain at the end of the week. Drought makes me so nervous…*bites nails

  4. Lee, Ottawa and surrounding areas are in a drought. No fires; swamps-wetlands (pick your fave) are down or dry, etc.

  5. @Benoit, well that explains the “no fires” in Teeter’s post on camping at Bon Echo PP. Thanks. But when was the last time it rained?

  6. I don’t think we’ve had “rain” since May; only storms and cloudbursts, none of which have been close to sufficient. Trees are stressed (and have been for years, more often than not). Big wind then comes and crack!, down comes the tree.

El Nino’s still imposing a blocking pattern.

  7. @Benoit, interesting how different Ontario is from California. We haven’t had rain since probably April, but we don’t expect it either. All a hot summer will do is stop the campfires and open fires outside of actual campgrounds. But it’s crucial that we get decent rainfall and snowfall over the winter. We got it last year.

  8. How was your weekend? I went to a party at Chez taxidermy. The rich uncle of my friend’s boyfriend threw a party for him. between the tiger, the polar bear, the zebra rug and a dozen deer heads.

  9. @Garf The Olympics indeed! Did you see our soccer team spent the first half losing to Fiji? F I J I !!!

I think Mexico’s hopes are in diving and tae kwon do (sp?)

  10. @Garf Bahaahha, It does help. I just know people expected it to be a 10-0 so starting by losing was upsetting.

Are there different types of rugby or is Sevens just a name?

  11. Rugby Sevens is played on a normal sized ruby pitch but with 7 players on the field for each team at any one time (with 5 substitutes available at any time) and the play 7 minute halfs (10 minute halfs for the medal games)

  14. Also, Olympics-wise, Canada beat the US at volleyball. Apparently that’s a big thing, an upset.

Also, every time my mom has come across a Canadian or a Canadian team playing or in a competition, she calls them “my relatives”.

Speaking of which, I think the diving competition is about to start. Wondering if there are in-laws (bahahaha) there too.

  17. The CBC might kick me out BUT I get to watch all the competitions for free online, thanks to the richest man in the world*, who bought out the broadcasting rights from the biggest TV companies (he also gave the rights to Public broadcasters so it’s not like internet-less people have no way to watch). Was it a business move? probably, but I find it pretty amusing, The biggest broadcasters are pretending the Olympics don’t exist. Like, if the CBC pretended NHL didn’t exist on it’s sports sections when Rogers got the rights.

*Carlos Slim. Not sure if he’s still there. Maybe on the top three

  18. Not sure Kathleen likes me too much. he’s got character, and I tend to come on directly.

(We’ve been aware of each other since she was, I dunno, 18?, and playing the Sheep as a total local unknown.)

  19. Not in such a way that we’re buddies or anything, but yes, her being aware of me as a person — always older than her — and me of her (“whyyyyyy, it’s……… Kathleen Edwards!”, I’ve said probably four times or so, when I saw her hanging around the dark corridor next to the bar at the Black Sheep), that being aware goes back a really long time. 1999? 2001? I don’t have that kind of memory, but I did look up the wiki, so it’s plausible (years before “Failer”).

So, yes, as far as it goes (not far), I “know know” her.

  20. From the wikipedia page about Kathleen Edwards: “She insists that she is not leaving music but just taking a break, and that the name Quitters is “kind of tongue-in-cheek”.”

I miss her singin’. Great, pathetic voice. And by that I mean “full of pathos”.
